Kris Carlson, MBA, RN is the President and Owner of A Plus Health Care, Inc., established in 1990. Today this company is listed in the top 100 largest companies in Montana with over 500 employees, serving most of Montana.
Her education includes a bachelor degree in nursing (BSN) from Montana State University on the Missoula Campus in 1987. Kris then graduated with Masters in Business Administration in Healthcare Administration (MBA)from City University in Seattle in 1993.
She began her career in medical-surgical, oncology, ICU and ER nursing in Olympia, Washington. Then for about 3 years she worked as a traveling nurse, working all over the United States. Then she returned to Montana where she worked as an emergency room nurse, staffing office manager, and human resources recruiter and the manager of Professional Registry of Health Care Services (PROHS) providing home care and staffing services for Kalispell Regional Medical Center. In 1997 she joined A Plus Health Care as the leader.
In addition to business and healthcare, Kris maintains a healthy interest in Montana communities. She is active as a board member for the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce, Tamarack Grief Resource Center, serves on Flathead Valley Community College business and education committee (FVBEC), Job Service Employer Committee (JSEC) past chair, church governing body and foundation board secretary, active in MT’s Long term Care Choices Coalition, MT Humane Society Animal Shelter volunteer, and Flathead High School Parent and Business Advisory team member.
In 1998, she helped form Touch of Grace Clinic for free healthcare services and served as RN Clinic Coordinator for 12 years. In 2001, Kris received the Professional Excellence Award from the Society of Human Resource Managers (SHRM), and was honored to attend Leadership Flathead. In 2006-07, she was selected the local Business Woman of the Year. Montana State Employers Council awarded her the 2007 Outstanding JSEC chair. In 2011, awarded with Citation Award for International Association of Workforce Professionals (IAWP).
Her dedication to Montana is a value to her success. She grew up in the Missoula Valley of Northwest Montana. Her family activities remain important to keeping Kris balanced in all she does. She is married to Tom, and they have two active daughters, Jasmine, age 19 attending college & Camas, age 15 attending high school. With the family, in 2009, went on a trade mission to China with the Chamber of Commerce exploring business, health care on other aspects of life in China. In 2011 she traveled to Africa to provide direct medical assistance, medication, and living assistance and sustainability to Uganda’s peoples to promote better health and life. Kris truly cares about people and making it better.
